The Coalition for the Homeless is Looking for Volunteer Shelter Monitors

A Shelter Monitor accompanies the Shelter Specialist and other Monitors on frequent visits to inspect the actual shelters and interact with the clients. Some of the reasons for client interaction are: to inform clients of what the Coalition for the Homeless can do for them, identify personal issues and refer them to the Coalition Crisis Department, locate sanctioned clients, identify and report facility issues and to do outreach for The Coalition’s Client Advocacy Group (CAG).

Twice a year, the monitors assist the Shelter Specialist in thorough inspection of every shelter in the system.

The monitors also assist in the moderation of bi-monthly CAG meetings at the Coalition offices.

A monitor must be 18 or older, available some evenings though scheduling is very flexible.

If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer Shelter Monitor or have any questions please contact David Obele, Shelter Specialist, at 212-776-2003 or dobele@cfthomeless.org.
