Posted on July 12, 2016 The State budget set aside $1.9 billion for affordable and supportive housing, but subjected those funds to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Governor and legislative leaders. Unfortunately, the State only released a meager $150 million of the $1.9 billion in a last-minute deal – leaving the rest of the money unused, and jeopardizing thousands of units of lifesaving supportive housing. The 80,000 homeless people across New York State can’t wait any longer: Albany must act now to release the full $1.9 billion to fund the first 6,000 new units of supportive housing for the most vulnerable New Yorkers. Although the legislative session has ended, Gov. Cuomo and the legislative leaders can release the remainder of the funds at any time – just by signing a full MOU. Please help us make a final push for them to SIGN THE MOU TODAY so we can break the cycle of poverty and homelessness for thousands of our neighbors.
