Today, Coalition for the Homeless Executive Director David Giffen issued the following statement in response to Mayor Eric Adams’ suggestion that immigrants charged with crimes did not necessarily deserve due process: “Mayor Adams is once again both morally and factually wrong. Basic civil rights and due process protections apply to everyone in New York City – something the Mayor himself should be grateful for. His knee-jerk instinct to divide New Yorkers by when they got here is extremely alarming to hear in a city that has always been home to millions of immigrants. New Yorkers expect their mayor to stand up for the values that have always defined this city and made it great.”
