Today, Coalition for the Homeless Executive Director David Giffen issued the following statement on the recent Department of Investigation report: “The City has a legal and moral obligation to ensure that everyone without a home has access to safe, decent and accessible shelter, and that the provision of such shelter is conducted honestly, transparently, and with the best interests of homeless New Yorkers at its core. The tens of thousands of individuals and families who rely on the municipal shelter system each night as a lifesaving alternative to sleeping on the streets are the ones who ultimately suffer when the City fails to properly manage and monitor the shelter system. The Coalition for the Homeless urges the City to heed the recommendations in the DOI report.”
