Posted on September 20, 2023 by Casey O'Hara We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped make the Coalition’s 16th annual Project: Back to School such a resounding success! This year, our goal was to fill 4,000 backpacks with all the essentials students need to start the school year on the right foot – notebooks, pens, pencils, folders, and more. But thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our supporters, we were able to purchase and distribute nearly 5,000 backpacks to kids in 51 shelters throughout New York City! We also wanted to extend a special thanks to Celtic FC Foundation, Mazars USA, Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP, and Amazon for raising critical funds and assembling hundreds of backpacks! Children living in shelter cope with a tremendous amount of stress and anxiety that makes it challenging to keep up in school with their housed peers. But thanks to your generosity, they were able to walk in on the first day feeling supported, prepared, and ready to learn and grow in the year ahead. Thank you again for your compassionate support and for your commitment to helping homeless children access the educational opportunities that all kids in our city deserve. PS – Project: Back to School may be over, but there are still opportunities to support homeless students this year. The Coalition’s Bound for Success is an after-school program that provides one-on-one tutoring and emotional support to children living in shelter. We hope you will consider making a back to school gift to help these kids have a brighter future!
