NYC’s homeless population higher than official estimate as city faces shortage of safe shelters: report

The number of homeless people sleeping on New York’s streets and subways is higher than city officials estimate — and the shabby state of the city’s shelters is in part to blame, said a report published Tuesday by the Coalition for the Homeless.
