About ARTWALK NY
ARTWALK NY brings together hundreds of artists, art-lovers, and other compassionate New Yorkers to celebrate the role of “artist-as-activist,” to raise awareness about the crisis of mass homelessness, and to support programs that directly help homeless families and individuals. All proceeds raised by ARTWALK NY support the lifesaving work of the Coalition for the Homeless.
About the Coalition for the Homeless
The Coalition for the Homeless provides emergency food and clothing, eviction prevention, crisis services, permanent housing, job training and special programs for kids to over 3,500 people a day. Since 1981, we have given more than one million homeless New Yorkers a way off the streets.
For more information call 212-776-2119 or email artwalkny@cfthomeless.org.
Artist Honoree – Katherine Bradford
Katherine Bradford (b. 1942, New York, NY) paints vibrant canvases that place characters, including mothers, superheroes, and swimmers, in abstract fields of saturated and sumptuous color. She started painting at the age of thirty while living in Maine and was among the group of artists who moved to Williamsburg, Brooklyn in the 1980s. She has exhibited widely at institutions such as MoMA PS1, New York; the Brooklyn Museum; the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, TX; Crystal Bridges Museum, Bentonville, AR; Prospect 4, New Orleans US Biennial, LA.
Her work is included in collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Brooklyn Museum; Musee d’Art Moderne Paris, the Dallas Museum of Art; and the Menil Collection, Houston TX. Her work has been shown at galleries including: Canada, Sperone Westwater, Pace Gallery, Anton kern Gallery and David Zwirner in New York; Pilar Corrias in London, Campoli Presti in Paris; Haverkampf Liestenschneider Galerie, Berlin; Kaufman Repetto, Milan; and Tomio Koyama, Tokyo, Japan.
Bradford is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Joan Mitchell Grant. She has taught at institutions such as the Yale School of Art, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia. A recent monograph, Katherine Bradford: Paintings, was published by Canada in 2018. In September a two-person exhibition from Bradford and Diedrick Brackens opened at the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard. In 2022, Bradford was the subject of a touring retrospective organized by the Portland Museum of Art in Maine that traveled to the Frye Museum in Seattle Washington. In 2024 Bradford’s survey show “American Odyssey” was exhibited at Halle fur Kunst Steiermark in Graz Austria.
Philanthropic Honoree – Aileen Agopian
Aileen Agopian has spent more than 28 years working at the highest level of the Post-War and Contemporary Art world. She founded AGOPIAN inc./ art advisory in 2016 to work with private collectors as well as corporate, estate and non-profit clients worldwide building their art collections and offering a wide-range of art expertise. Prior to establishing her bespoke firm, Aileen had an acclaimed career in the auction industry. She worked at Sotheby’s as the Senior International Director of Post-War and Contemporary Art, as well as the Co-Head of Contemporary Art Auctions in Doha, Qatar. Before this time, she helped establish the Post-War and Contemporary Art Auctions at Phillips in New York in 2000, as its Director of Contemporary Art North America for 10 years. As an accomplished auctioneer at both Sotheby’s and Phillips, Aileen continues to conduct charity auctions worldwide. She began her career in London as the sales director at White Cube Gallery in the mid-1990s, working with artists such as Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin, who were at the beginning of their burgeoning art careers.
The Coalition for the Homeless is extremely grateful to Aileen for her devotion and energy over the past 14 years in support of ARTWALK NY, both as auctioneer and as a longtime core member of the Art Advisory Board. Her compassion and commitment have been critical to the event’s continuing success and has helped uplift the lives of countless homeless New Yorkers.
