Posted on March 19, 2020 by Michael Gartland in New York Daily News New York Daily News, By Michael Gartland Hotels hollowed out by the coronavirus could be re-purposed into triage centers and housing for homeless New Yorkers diagnosed with the disease, advocates said Thursday. “Many of the current recommendations like self-quarantine and social distancing are impossible for homeless New Yorkers, who lack the security and privacy of a home,” said Coalition for the Homeless Policy Director Giselle Routhier. “There are ways the Department of Homeless Services and our governing bodies can work together to ensure vulnerable populations like the homeless are well-supported,” she said.
