The Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) Program is funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban development and administered jointly by the Human Resources Administration (HRA) and Housing Preservation and Development (HPD). Households with at least two household members, or a pregnant person, as well as chronically street homeless individuals will be considered for this program who also receive SSI, SSDI, retirement or survivors benefits and do not have an income that exceeds 60% of the median income for New York City, further detailed in the link below.
The application period for HOME TBRA closed 9/3/15. A lottery determined those who would receive assistance, given the limited number of coupons available. Families that did not receive a coupon were placed on a waiting list.
Those who received a coupon have 120 days to locate an apartment which must be located in the five boroughs of New York City. The unit must be registered with HPD and HRA and must pass inspection before lease signing can be arranged.
More information about TBRA is available here.
