More than 750 guests attended the Coalition's ARTWALK NY benefit on Monday, November 3rd, at the Metropolitan Pavilion. The live and silent art auction raised nearly $700,000 for our life-saving services and long-term policy solutions. The 14th annual ARTWALK NY honored the late Robert Rauschenberg, considered to be one of the most influential American artists of the 20th century. Co-chairs Richard Gere and Carey Lowell, along with special guests Alec Baldwin, Chuck Close, Kayce Freed Jennings and Darryl Pottorf, paid tribute to his life and work. Sotheby’s auctioneer Christopher Gaillard led the evening’s live auction proceedings. Highlights of the live auction included works by Rauschenberg, Close, Jenny Holzer and Wade Guyton. The silent auction featured artists such as Yoko Ono, Donald Baechler, Kiki Smith and Louise Bourgeois, among many others. Guests had the opportunity to mix and mingle among the artwork, to sip Nicholas Feuillatte champagne and wines courtesy of Wines of Chile, and to enjoy the cocktails and scotch tasting bar courtesy of Diageo. The Coalition is grateful to our many sponsors, artists, and Benefit and Junior Committee members who generously supported the event. Our success is due to their incredible donation of time, energy and resources. Please stay tuned for details on our 15th annual ARTWALK NY to take place in Fall 2009!
